About The Project

The Economic Forecast Project is a community-sponsored research program of the College of Business and Economics at Boise State University. The purpose of the Project is to make the University’s economic expertise available to the communities throughout the state by monitoring and forecasting the state and regional economies. This is accomplished by:

  1. Maintaining the largest and most comprehensive economic and demographic database of the state and its regions, counties, and cities.
  2. Using data and economic tools to analyze and forecast state and regional economic activity.

The Forecast Project publishes a detailed economic forecast of the state and its regions in November of each year. Quarterly updates are published in February, May, and August. The annual publication, the quarterly updates, and the data are available in hard copy and electronically.

Each year’s forecast is also presented in a series of forecast seminars in communities throughout the state. In each seminar the forecast is refined to concentrate on that community and the attendees and economists interact in an open discussion of the forecast.

Sponsors may also take the opportunity of a private session with the economists that would give greater insight to their industry and market.

The Forecast Project also uses the expertise of the faculty in the College of Business and Economics to perform contract research for businesses and government agencies.
